Imagery Exercise: For Secrets that are Gnawing at You

To Forgive Yourself
  • Sit up in a chair, hands in the arms of the chair or in your lap palms down.
  • Close your eyes and breathe out a long slow exhalation through the mouth.
  • Confess five errors in your life you have been aware of.
  • Afterward breathe out one slow long exhalation
  • Ask God or your inner source of wisdom to forgive you until you are satisfied within yourself that you have forgiven yourself.

To Forgive Another

  • Close your eyes.
  • Breathe out slowly three times (e.g. long slow exhalations from the mouth, followed by normal inhalations through the nose).
  • See yourself walking on a country road.
  • You are dressed in blue or white. 
  • Walking along you come to a forest.
