Doubt and Illness

...Illness is the body in doubt...

When we are in doubt we are in conflict; we are being pulled in two directions simultaneously neither of which we believe we can take.  We generally conceive of a way out of the two separate directions by taking a third option, that of illness. In illness we find some respite from the tension of the two pulls. Illness is a legitimate out from what ails us inwardly; we gain sympathy and understanding of how responsibility could not be taken (or whatever else might be gained) by becoming unable.  But there is a fourth way of faith where we face the truth, face the pain, and choose between the choices.  We take a step without thinking about any future consideration. We come back to the moment, back to the is-ness, to the only place that is.
