Out of God’s Hat
Adabted from: Daniel Ladinsky, The Gift: Poems by Hafiz, the Great Sufi Master (New York, Penguin, 1999) p154. Print.
- Sit up, close your eyes, and breathe out and in for three rounds (long slow exhalations through the mouth and normal inhalations through the nose).
- See and become one with the experience of the stars pouring into the sky out of a magician’s hat.
- Breathe out one time.
- See and sense them falling into your hair, and even entangling your eyelashes into luminous playful knots.
- Breathe out one time.
- As a seeker you are welcome to cut a radiant tress that lays upon my shoulders.
- Breathe out one time.
- Wrap it around your trembling heart and body that craves divine comfort and warmth.
- Breathe out one time.
- Lean your sweet neck and mouth out of that dark nest where you hide.
- Know that God is like a pitcher of milk in the hands of a mother who loves you.
- All of its contents are being churned into dancing suns and moons.
- Breathe out one time.
- Know and experience as one this brilliant streaming light into your mind.
- Breathe out and open your eyes.
